Summer Concerts
Summer concerts will be Friday evenings, June 27, July 4, 11, 18, 25, and August 1.
The Orange Community Band will begin rehearsals for the summer season on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:00 pm in the Orange Armory. Conductor Stephanie Parker is taking a leave of absence this summer to finish her educational commitment. A series of guest conductors will be fronting the band. Will Choe, band director at R.C.Mahar Regional will be the guest conductor for the first rehearsal. He will be conducting the July 18 concert on the Bandstand.
Other rehearsals before the concert season begins will be on June 18 and June 25.
Concert Schedule
- June 27 at 7:30 pm.,The first concert on the bandstand in Butterfield Park will be Friday evening, Steve Babineau, conductor of the Narragansett Community Band will conduct the opening concert, which will be sponsored by Ames Trophy.
- July 4, This traditional Patriotic concert will be sponsored by the Orange American Legion Post 172. Ed Mierzewski, retired director of the R.C. Mahar Regional Band, will conduct the July 4th concert.
- July 11, Children’s Night on the bandstand. Al Benjamin of Athol, conductor of the Greenfield Military Band, will be guest conductor. This concert will be sponsored by the Lyman and Kilhart Families.
- July 18, sponsored by Therese “Nursie” Perkins in memory of her husband Freeland and son-in-law Tom. Will Choe will be the conductor.
- July 25, unsponsored as of this date. Dave Baer, Music Director at Narragansett Regional High School will be guest conductor.
- August 1, The final concert of the season is Memory Night, sponsored by Witty’s Funeral Home. Chris Arnold of Sparta, New Jersey, who conducted the Band for a time in the 1990’s, and is remembered in the area as a trumpet player and teacher, will conduct the final concert.
All of the concerts on the Bandstand will begin at 7:30 pm on Friday evenings, rain or shine. In the event of a severe electrical storm, the concert may be cancelled at 7:30 on the bandstand by the officers.
Musicians wishing to join the OCB this summer should plan to attend the June 11 rehearsal. Contact an officer or check the Orange Community Band website at www.orangecommunityband.com.

About OCB
The Orange Community Band performs a series of six summer concerts on the
bandstand in Orange’s Butterfield Park, Membership in the band is open to
all musicians of high school age or above who are willing to commit to
attendance at rehearsals and attendance for the entire season. The band
also performs an indoor pops concert each spring, with a longer series of
rehearsals. A delegation from the Orange Community Band also performs in
the River Rat Parade in April and the October Harvest Festival Parade, as
well as for the arrival of Santa Claus in Orange the Friday after
Thanksgiving. Interested musicians should contact an officer of the band and should plan to attend rehearsals for the summer.
Sponsorship:
The Orange Community Band is self-funding, through the proceeds from the
Pops Concert Advertising booklet, and from sponsorship of summer concerts.
A concert sponsorship is $400, and may be split between two individuals or
groups. Contact Maureen Riendeau for more information on
sponsorship.
The band has Orange Community Band hats available for sale, at a cost of
$12, adjustable size fits all. These may be purchased at the band concerts or contact
for information.
